The City has already been hard at work on the library renovations for several months now. This project is designed to enhance and optimize services and spaces in order to better respond to library users’ needs and reflect current trends.

The library will become a true “third place” (after the workplace and home) conducive to get-togethers, relaxation and amazing discoveries.

According to the current schedule, the library has closed its doors for renovation on Friday, December 16, 2016, and will remain closed for around five or six months. For more information on this project, visit the Project description page.

During the renovations, there is a temporary service outlet at the multi-purpose centre. A collection of recent documents and several services will be offered there to library members. To find out about how it works and the services offered, visit the Temporary service outlet page.

To complement the temporary library services offered at the multi-purpose centre, the City of Saint-Lambert offers you other services to accommodate you during the renovation work on our local library. For more information on these services, visit the Additional library services page.

2017-10-13 - The library reopens on October 19
The City of Saint-Lambert is informing citizens that the library will finally open on October 19. The extra few days that have been added to the original timeline will make it possible to complete work that has been deemed a priority to ensure the smooth functioning of all activities along with the comfort of library patrons.

The library will therefore reopen next Thursday at noon, according to regular opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 9 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New location for some activities
The following activities that were to have taken place at the library next week will move to Council Chambers at City Hall (55 Argyle Avenue):

  • Screening: Expo 67, Mission Impossible : Tuesday, October 17, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Préludes à l’opéra: The three most underestimated operas of Giuseppe Verdi : Tuesday, October 17, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Screening: Expo 67, Mission Impossible : Thursday, October 19, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Youth section still under construction
The youth section will unfortunately not be open for another few weeks, as major renovations are still under way. But the wait will have been worth it, because once it is completed, youngsters will finally have a beautiful space that meets their needs!

This delay means that we are obliged to postpone the activity “All about... dinosaurs!” which was to take place on October 21 as part of the Rentrée culturelle. It will be rescheduled when the youth section opens, as one of the objectives of this activity is to have the young participants discover the new space.

Citizens are invited to check in with and the municipal social media to keep updated about the situation.

2017-08-17 – End of the library renovations in sight!
Renovations resumed after the construction holidays and the work is progressing well. Crews are working on both the inside and the outside. Among other things, the roof was redone last week and the masonry work, which will restore the building’s beauty, is continuing.

Given this advanced stage in the project, the team in charge took the opportunity to report on the state of the renovations. If all continues as planned, the library will reopen on October 16, according to regular opening hours. The temporary service outlet will, therefore, close its doors on September 15 at 9 p.m. During the transition period, users will still have access to the library’s online resources (databases, digital loans, virtual magazines and newspapers, dictionaries, etc.) as well as to the Brossard library, until October 31.

The team has also been able to estimate the total cost of the project at $3.5 million, as the costs related to professional services, temporary relocation of the library, new equipment (RFID chips, self-service loan and returns terminals, etc.), the layout of the various spaces and furniture are now nearly all known at this stage. Of this amount, close to $2.3 million, the largest portion of the budget, was spent on demolition and construction work. Let us recall that $1.2 million of the project’s cost was funded by the Friends of the Library Foundation, which received a generous bequest in 2013.

2017-06-23 - Progress of the renovations
The demolition work is now finished and a number of sub-contractors are now working on the specialized areas of electricity, structure, indoor systems, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning, etc. Work is progressing smoothly and we are still on track for a provisional delivery date in August.

Here are some photos that allow you to see the progress of the work:

2017-05-12 - News from the worksite
The contract for the library renovations was awarded in January, as planned, and the contractor moved onto the site in February. The crew began with the demolition work, then proceeded to structural work in the building’s basement and is presently completing the electrical work.

The six-month schedule is currently on track, and a technician from the City of Saint-Lambert’s Engineering Department is on site every day making sure everything runs smoothly. Construction professionals assigned to this project are also present to oversee the technical compliance of the renovations.

As soon as there is something interesting to show you, we will publish a few photos and give you a sneak peek of your new library!
