Published on 18 Mar 2025
The City Council met on March 17, 2025 for its monthly public meeting. Mayor Pascale Mongrain opened the meeting by speaking on several topics of interest:
- A look back at snow removal operations
- Work begins on Reach School expansion
- Congratulations to La Traversée on receiving a grant from Desjardins
- Upcoming events: two farmers' markets and the Village Cabane
- Numerous corrections to be made to articles in Journal St-Lambert
The following is a summary of the main issues discussed and orientations adopted.
1. Public tree inventory
The Saint-Lambert City Council recognizes the importance of trees, both for the distinctive character they give our city and for their beneficial effects on the environment. That's why it has approved a contract to update the public tree inventory. The contracted firm will complete the inventory by also assessing the health of trees on the territory and drawing up maintenance plans.
2. Reconstruction of the Alexandra chalet and swimming pool
It's under way! The Municipal Council has awarded the contract for the construction of the Alexandra Park pool, wading pool and chalet to Construction Richelieu inc. In addition to modernizing the facilities, this major project will meet users' expectations and provide the community with a modern, accessible and user-friendly facility.
Work will start in April, with the demolition of the existing facilities. It will continue uninterrupted until June 2026, enabling the facilities to be reopened in time for the summer season next year.
This major investment, estimated at over $8 million, will be partially financed by a generous grant of $2.69 million from the Programme d'aide financière aux infrastructures récréatives, sportives et de plein air (PAFIRSPA) - volet 1.
3. 35th edition of the Saint-Lambert Triathlon/Duathlon
The Ville de Saint-Lambert is proud to support the Saint-Lambert Triathlon/Duathlon, organized by the Club de Triathlon Rive-Sud, in its 35th year. The event will be held at Parc de la Voie Maritime and on some of our local streets on Saturday, June 14, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. You're all invited to come and cheer on the participants.
4. River promenade on the Seaway dike
City Council has officially mandated the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) to build a river promenade on the dike of the St. Lawrence Seaway, linking Sainte-Catherine to Saint-Lambert and passing through four other towns. Ultimately, this project will modernize the existing bicycle link on the dike and create rest areas to promote safe use of the site, while showcasing this magnificent natural environment with its unique character.
For our city, this project will consolidate and enhance the cycling link as a recreational and tourism destination, and as an infrastructure supporting active transportation between the South Shore and the island of Montreal.
5. Grants to recognized Saint-Lambert organizations
In recognition of the essential contribution our organizations make to the vitality of our community, the City Council has awarded several of them financial assistance for the year 2025. Totaling close to $70,000, these grants will have a direct positive impact on the services offered to the people of Saint-Lambert, while helping the recipient organizations to fulfill their missions.
6. Donation of works of art by Carole Simard-Laflamme
Saint-Lambert artist Carole Simard-Laflamme wishes to offer the City of Saint-Lambert two of her works entitled Une cueillette de Robes-semailles and Robe-semailles. The City Council was delighted to accept this generous offer from this internationally renowned visual artist.
The works are already on display in our buildings, one at the entrance to the library and the other in the town hall office. To find out more about this artist, visit her page on the 100% culture Saint-Lambert microsite.
7. Sidewalk cafés
As an imminent sign of the arrival of summer, the City Council has given the go-ahead for the construction of sidewalk cafés in the downtown area. Once again this summer, the heart of our city will beat to the rhythm of the lively terraces, to our great delight! Get your day off to a good start with a delicious coffee or a gourmet meal in an inviting atmosphere that never disappoints.
