Published on 21 Jan 2025

The City Council met on January 20, 2025 for its monthly public meeting. Mayor Pascale Mongrain opened the meeting by speaking on several topics of interest:

  • Season's greetings
  • Council's municipal priorities: customer service and communications, agglomeration budget inequity, future of City Hall and easing the administrative burden
  • Property assessment, an agglomeration responsibility
  • Saint-Lambert Catholic Church put up for sale
  • Continuation of Taylor's store
  • Coming arrival of BIXI self-service bicycles
  • The need to participate in organic waste collection
  • Dynamic merchants and the fine example of Les Assoiffés bistro

The following is a summary of the main issues discussed and orientations adopted.

1. Reconstruction of Hickson Avenue and Union Boulevard

The major project to rebuild Hickson Avenue, Union Boulevard and portions of Osborne, Prince Arthur and Queen Streets took another step forward at the January meeting. The notice of motion for the borrowing by-law was given by the Municipal Council. Estimated at $28.5 million, this project, necessary in view of the dilapidated state of the infrastructure, is eligible for the PRIMEAU grant program.

If all goes according to schedule, the first phase of work should start around mid-May. The residents concerned will be informed in due course, so that they can prepare themselves adequately. Further details are available in the info-works section of our website.

2. Adoption of the 2024 report and the 2025 update of the 2023-2025 universal accessibility action plan

The Ville de Saint-Lambert wishes to contribute to the development of a healthy living environment for all, to improve the sense of belonging and to ensure that every citizen can participate actively in society. Year after year, the municipal administration pursues its efforts to gradually reduce barriers to the integration of people with disabilities.

To this end, the Municipal Council has adopted the 2024 report and the 2025 update of the 2023-2025 universal accessibility action plan. In it, citizens will find the measures that have recently been deployed, as well as those that the City intends to implement over the next few years to improve the lives of people with disabilities on the territory, in municipal buildings, parks and green spaces, services offered to citizens, public spaces and during public events.

The 2024 report and updated action plan are available for consultation on the Universal Accessibility page of our website.

3. Infrastructure grant application

To ensure sound management of public funds, the Ville de Saint-Lambert is proactive in its search for subsidies. The municipal council has authorized the administration to submit an application under the 2024-2028 Quebec water and community infrastructure transfer program (TECQ).

This grant will help finance part of the repairs to our streets, whose underground infrastructure must be replaced to ensure quality of service for residents.
