The Ville de Saint-Lambert receives a grant for its aquatic facilities at Alexandra Park

Published on 18 Jul 2024

The Ville de Saint-Lambert has broken ground on the Alexandra Park pool, wading pool and chalet to mark the start of the renovation project. Benefiting from a major grant of $2.69 million from the Quebec government, the event was attended by Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors and MNA for Brome-Missisquoi, Isabelle Poulet, MNA for Laporte, and Pascale Mongrain, Mayor of Saint-Lambert.

This major project involves the complete reconstruction of the chalet, which will be modernized for the comfort of users and its use by day camps. The new wading pool will feature a beach entrance and integrated water games. The pool, meanwhile, will retain the swim lanes popular with swimmers, and will feature more space for free swimming, as well as a large slide. Access for people with reduced mobility will be included in both pools.

The City will take advantage of the opportunity to better position the facilities at the heart of the park, facilitating access for users. An effort has also been made in the design to optimize the site's vegetation, notably the beach around the main basin, in order to combat heat islands and minimize impervious surfaces.

The project, now estimated at $6.8 million, will be financed by a $2.69 million grant from the Programme d'aide financière aux infrastructures récréatives, sportives et de plein air (PAFIRSPA) - volet 1. The City will assume the remaining costs.

Quotes:

“The investments we are making in recreational, sports and outdoor infrastructures demonstrate our commitment to improving the physical and mental health of our population. Not only do they help energize our regions, they also strengthen the social fabric of our communities. Thanks to the many projects deployed as part of this program, people of all ages and from all over Quebec will now have more community spaces and dynamic playgrounds in which to enjoy physical activities and entertainment. I'm delighted that the Saint-Lambert community will be able to take advantage of this with the Alexandra Park reconstruction project.”

Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for Sport, Recreation and Outdoors
“I'm very pleased to see our government taking the health and well-being of the population so seriously. Sports, recreational and outdoor facilities play an essential role in achieving our goals in this area. With the modernization and reconstruction of the chalet and pool at Alexandra Park in Saint-Lambert, we're going to encourage more citizens to stay active, while better meeting the needs of local residents.”

Isabelle Poulet, MP for Laporte
“I would like to thank the Ministry of Education for this major assistance, which will directly benefit Lambertois residents and their families. The Alexandra Park pool and wading pool help promote sport and physical activity as healthy lifestyle habits. This project will have a great impact on the community, as it meets a need that has been widely expressed for several years now for safe, more ecological and up-to-date local facilities.”

Pascale Mongrain, Mayor of Saint-Lambert

According to the preliminary schedule, the work will be carried out during the spring and summer of 2025, opening just in time for the 2026 summer season.
