Starting January 1, 2025 : Major changes are coming to Saint-Lambert's residual materials collections
Published on 23 Oct 2024
The Ville de Saint-Lambert wishes to inform its citizens that major changes will be made to all residual materials collection services as of January 1, 2025.
These changes are aimed at optimizing collection services and making them more cost-effective, as well as contributing to the achievement of government objectives in terms of materials management, notably by promoting better sorting. The changes will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the use of landfill sites.
The City is aware that by announcing such changes, it is modifying citizens' habits, which is why it will ensure that it accompanies them in order to best encourage this transition by deploying all relevant information through its various communication tools.
What changes will be made?
All collections
- New collection days and four new collection sectors will come into effect.
- Collections will start at 6 a.m. Bins must be placed curbside between 7 p.m. the evening before and 5:30 a.m. on the morning of the collection.
Household garbage collection:
- Household garbage will be collected every three weeks at single-family dwellings and apartment buildings with 8 units or fewer.
- Bins will be emptied by mechanical lifting throughout the city.
- Only wheeled bins (black, grey or green) with European grips will be accepted: you have the option of using 120-litre, 240-litre, or 360-litre bins.
- Only one bin per residence will be allowed.
- No surplus garbage placed beside bins will be picked up.
Citizens will be responsible for buying an appropriate bin tf they don’t already have one.
Recycling collection:
- Recycling materials will be collected every two weeks for everyone, including industrial, commercial and institutional buildings (ICIs), as well as apartment buildings with 9 or more units.
- For ICIs and apartment buildings with 9 units or more, a maximum of six 360 L recycling bins will be authorized. If this is not sufficient for their needs, they will have to make the transition to a front-loading container (no later than December 31, 2026).
How to get informed?
In addition to the information that will be available on its website and published in a series of posts on its Facebook page, the City is offering citizens:
- Information meeting
An information meeting will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m., at the multi-purpose centre (81 Hooper Street). The session will also be broadcast live on the City's YouTube channel. City representatives will be on hand to explain the main changes and answer any questions citizens may have.
- Collection calendar
During the month of November, a detailed calendar will be distributed by mail to all residences on the territory. It will set out the new modalities, new sectors and new schedules for each collection.
