At its regular meeting on May 13, the municipal council of the Ville de Saint-Lambert confirmed its willingness to authorize and regulate free street play on its territory.

Included in the new By-law concerning traffic, parking and public safety adopted at the meeting, this practice will now be permitted throughout the territory, with the exception of specifically designated streets.

Whether it's a family game of street field hockey or basketball, scooter rides or a game of hopscotch with friends, the Ville de Saint-Lambert encourages young and not-so-young to have fun on authorized residential streets.

"Authorizing street games normalizes an existing practice that was tolerated until now. With this measure, we want to make our streets a safe environment where multiple uses can easily coexist and where our children can have fun in complete safety,"
says Mayor Pascale Mongrain.

In addition to promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits, using streets and urban spaces in a positive way creates a more inclusive environment. "Neighborhood life and community spirit in Saint-Lambert are particularly rich, and street games will only strengthen the sense of belonging and social cohesion that already prevails here," continued Mayor Pascale Mongrain.

Of course, street play must take place in a safe environment, and certain conditions must be met, such as sufficient visual clearance, respect for the peace and quiet of neighbors, vigilance on the part of participants, supervision by parents and clearance of the roadway following play.

"The notion of sharing the road will be all the more important to ensure healthy cohabitation between all users. I invite all citizens to be vigilant in their movements,"
concluded Mayor Pascale Mongrain.
